South African City Futures
South African Cities Network, African Centre for Cities
March 2013
In collaboration with African Centre for Cities, Cities Network, JDA and partners

In light of the gross spatial and institutional inequality in South Africa, the project sought to recalibrate the way planning engages with communities in imagining their future neighbourhoods. A methodology was developed that used tools such as body mapping, simulation data, walking, radical imagineering and model building to allow communities to more meaningfully participate the future growth of their neighbourhoods. Five workshop experiments were undertaken across South Africa.
