Growing up in a home where modern art was part of life, Holger moved to study architecture and urban design in Karlsruhe and Barcelona. He received his architectural degree with major in urban planning from the University in Karlsruhe, Germany. After some years of working in Germany, he moved to South Africa. After involvement in major infrastructure projects (Cape Town Station) he relocated to Johannesburg, joined Urban Works and is a lecturer for design and construction at the School of Architecture, University of the Witwatersrand. Through extensive travels in Europe as well as the United States, he developed a deep understanding of the concept of city in the West, upon which his interest of urbanism in cities of the global South developed.
