Using evidence to inform creative architectural and urban design concepts which deliver high-impact spatial solutions.

UrbanWorks is an interdisciplinary design-research studio rooted in Johannesburg, South Africa—a city alive with contradiction, fragility, and fierce imagination. Born of both frustration and fascination, the studio questions how the African city is seen, shaped, and contested.

Working within contexts of rupture and resilience, UrbanWorks engages the city as a site of inquiry and invention. It seeks to forge new methods of design—attuned to urgency, steeped in research, and unapologetically speculative. The studio’s work aims to harness the pressures of the present—not to resolve them, but to reframe them as conditions for bold, situated infrastructure and institutional possa
